Passionate about the Art of Ropemaking
My name is Caroline and I live in Askrigg in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. I worked and trained to become a Ropemaker at Outhwaites Ropemakers in Hawes (est. 1905) nearly 7 years ago, having previously worked in the hotel industry for more than 30 years.
A simple search of Heritage Crafts sadly shows that the art of Ropemaking is in decline in the UK, with more and more products being shipped in from overseas. Askrigg Ropemakers formed when Outhwaites closed its doors in Autumn 2022 and is dedicated to creating handmade, bespoke items and keeping the art of Ropemaking in the UK very much alive.
Our handcrafted skipping ropes are made using traditional ropemaking techniques, combining durability with timeless design. Whether for fitness, play, or as a nod to heritage, each rope is built to last and feels satisfying in use—simple, strong, and made with care in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
Our Cattle Halters and Lead Ropes are made from 100% Cotton. Our Cattle Halters range from 6mm - 24mm. Our Lead Ropes measure 6ft by 14mm diameter.
